eMoney
What is a eMoney?
eMoney is electronic money, which is also referred to as e-money, electronic cash, electronic currency, digital money, digital cash or digital currency, anything where value is is exchanged electronically.
sQuidcards are smart cards that hold eMoney and the sQuid network uses the internet, smart cards and digital stored value systems to transfer funds.
Each sQuidcard has a unique security number that is linked to a specific eMoney account. When you make a purchase, the card reader scans the encrypted code and will either accept the payment, provided that there are available funds.
And it's quick too-much faster than cash, much faster than chip and PIN.
sQuid eMoney is a smarter way to pay
sQuid is a new kind of cash: smart cash. It can be used to pay for those everyday items, such as your morning coffee, your favourite magazine and your lunchtime sandwich. It saves you from fiddling with coins and helps you keep an eye on where your money is going. Watch sQuid in action...
An open or closed payments network
sQuid eMoney as an open network
This is where we make sQuid available in regional geographies, for use in retail, leisure centres, etc.
sQuid can be used on a sQuidcard or added as an eMoney application to third party smart cards. To see a list of sQuid on different cards - click here.
sQuid can also be used as a closed network
sQuid can also be used in a 'closed' (or private) environment where its use can be controlled, for example as a closed cashless catering solution in a school or as payments and loyalty card for a retail outlet, such as Coffee Republic.
Hybrid scheme - closed and open purse
There is also the flexibility to have a closed and open purse on the one card. For example Bolton Council's BSmart card for 11 to 16 years has both a sQuid open eMoney purse and a closed BSmart purse, which can only be used at approved outlets that promote positive activities.
