Aberdeen residents to benefit from eMoney solutions
2 Sep 2010
Aberdeen residents will soon be able to pay for low-value goods with eMoney solutions, it has been revealed.
Electronic payments provider sQuid has formed a partnership with Aberdeen City Council to offer its service on the authority's Accord Card.
Cardholders can pay for goods in participating stores, while it can also be used to pay for library or gym services in the city.
John Stewart, leader of Aberdeen City Council, expressed his belief that the technology will soon become more prominent in the city.
He said: "It can be used to pay for those everyday things such as going to the gym at the Beach Leisure Centre, coffee or lunch at the Art Gallery or borrowing a DVD from the Central Library.
"We expect sQuid to become part of everyday life in Aberdeen as retailers start to accept it."
Applicants for the free service do not need a bank account to top up their card as credit can be added with cash.
There are currently 60,000 Accord card holders in Aberdeen, including all secondary schools pupils and senior citizens.
