Bermuda parking system uses smart card technology
21 Sep 2009
Smart card technology has been dubbed "intelligent" by the "intelligent" by the Managing Director of parking meter device manufacturer Agility.
Norris Ebbin told the Royal Gazette about a new product that uses such technology to help Bermudan motorists who are caught short of coins when they go to pay for parking.
Dubbed EasyPark, the system is an in-vehicle device that "offers one solution for everywhere you park".
Mr Ebbin also suggested that people who park in the same spot will not need to keep resetting the mechanism - and it also turns itself when the parking day stops.
EasyPark is currently being used in the City of Hamilton and the LF Wade International Airport, and can be topped up at petrol stations.
Contactless smart card technology is generally viewed as something that can make life easier by reducing the need for carrying coins around and increasing security during transactions.
ECash network sQuidcard provides the technology in the UK and the firm's managing director Adam Smith stated in May that it plans to extend its services across the north-west "in due course".
