Cashless payments launched for parking in Sheffield
25 Jan 2010
Motorists who are driving into Sheffield will soon be able to pay for their council parking by using eMoney devices, eradicating the need to locate loose change for ticket machines.
The Sheffield Telegraph reports that drivers in the city will now be able to pay by debit or credit card or even phone when they park in car parks or on-street bays that are owned by the council.
People who frequently get caught out by over-staying their allotted parking time may be pleased to hear that the new technology will allow motorists to extend their stay without having to return to their vehicle and pay for a new ticket.
For an extra ten pence, people can receive a text to remind them when their allocated time is about to run out.
Public transport users are also able to make cashless payments for their travel in selected areas of the UK.
In Bolton, Greater Manchester, residents who travel on Arriva buses can pay for their travel by using a sQuid transit card.
People can swipe the contactless smart card under a reader, which will then automatically deduct the cost of their fare.
