Belgian workers to benefit from new cashless catering scheme
9 Sep 2010

A new cashless catering scheme is due to be launched in Belgium which aims to replace current paper-based employee meal programmes.

Next-generation payments provider Clear2Pay has teamed up with prepaid voucher specialist Edenred to develop the new system.

Workers will be issued with a contactless smart card to pay for food in stores and restaurants around the country.

In addition to faster transaction times and increased security, the cards can reduce administrative tasks for stores and limit paper waste.

Jean-Bernard Trussart, general manager at Edenred Belgium, said: "This is quite a prestigious project. Evidently, we have put great effort on quality and security, which are of outmost importance for our customers and their consumers, as well as for the merchants."

In 2009, a pilot of the project involving 950 employees was conducted by Edenred in Brussels, Antwerp and Namur.
