Bolton council in school meals drive

Parents in Bolton, Greater Manchester have the opportunity to get a taste of what their children can expect from their school dinners when term starts again next month.

On August 11th, 13th, 14th and 15th between 10:00 and 14:00 BST, Bolton council will be hosting an event at the town's market which allows people to sample the new menus.

School meals chef Phil Ogden will be preparing the dishes in the fish market section of Bolton Market on Ashburner Street.

Ismail Ibrahim, Bolton council's executive member for environmental services, said that the schools in the town have improved their meals in the last few years.

"We really need to get mums and dads on board to help us promote healthy eating at home as well as atschool," he added.

School meals and the opportunities for cashless catering have been discussed in regard to various schoolsacross the UK recently.

In two Wiltshire schools, pupils are able to use sQuidcard's eMoney facilities to pay for their meals, meaning parents can keep track of their offspring's spending habits via the internet.
