Cashless catering 'benefits Kirklees high schools'
3 Aug 2009

Cashless catering in Kirklees high schools allows parents to ensure that the money they send with their children is spent on lunch, the Huddersfield Daily Examiner has noted.

Kirklees council has decided to postpone a 10p increase in the price of school dinners and has also undertaken a number of innovative initiatives - including cashless catering at many high schools and healthier menu options - which will be in place when lessons resume in September.

Cashless catering also gives high school pupils who are entitled to free school meals greater anonymity and 14 regional educational institutions are set to use the system next term.

Sheldon School in Wiltshire has partnered with sQuidcard for its cashless catering system, which allows staff who previously were responsible for cash handling to perform other duties.

Through use of the cards, pupils are taught greater financial responsibility and uptake of school meals improved, according to a case study.
