Cashless catering comes to Lincolnshire school
17 May 2010

cashless catering system has been installed in a Lincolnshire school, reports thisislincolnshire.co.uk.

Boston Grammar School funded the £60,000 biometric project with donations from a local healthy eating programme and money raised by the school.

Students will now be able to pay for their meals by simply scanning their fingerprint at a designated reader, which will then deduct the required amount from their account.

Facilities manager Sean Bennett said: "It is more convenient as pupils can top up whenever they like. It also helps us check on which food items are most popular and which aren't doing so well so we can keep updating our menu."

Pupils will benefit from quicker payments and reduced queuing times, while parents can be reassured that dinner money is only spent on food.

Furthermore, the scheme will also reduce any social stigma for children who are entitled to free meals, as students can not be distinguished between those who pay for meals.
