17 Mar 2010

Wine lovers will be able to pay for a glass or two of the good stuff using contactless smart cards when visiting The Forge in Miami.

The renowned restaurant is due to reopen on March 29th following a renovation project and hopes to be bigger and better upon its return.

According to the Miami New Times Food Blog, the restaurant's wine cellar has been expanded to offer even more choice to patrons.

But more impressively, it's also been fitted with an innovative serving system that allows customers to order wine by the glass and choose exactly what they want using the smart cards.

Gino Santangelo, executive sommelier at The Forge, revealed to the publication that Dewey LoSasso would be joining the kitchen staff as executive chef, while the restaurant's decor has also been overhauled.

Smart cards have been having a transformative effect on the food industry in countries all over the world, allowing for cashless catering.

In the UK, sQuid smart cards are being used in Aberdeen, Bolton, Cheshire, Dumfries & Galloway, Dundee, North Lanarkshire and Thames Ditton.

As well as restaurants, schools and universities can also benefit from electronic money payments which are speedy, secure, reduce waiting times for customers and slash accounting times for businesses.
