Cashless catering introduced at Halesowen school
9 Nov 2009
Youngsters at Windsor High School in Halesowen can use cashless catering facilities when buying their lunch.
Introduced this week, the system means that pupils do not have to carry around loose change.
However, the system is different to other cashless catering systems that have been established across the UK that use contactless smart cards.
St Augustine's Catholic College and Sheldon School in Wiltshire both use this format with the help of eMoney network sQuidcard, but the Halesowen schoolhas implemented controversial technology that uses fingerprints rather than cards.
Whereas the system in Wiltshire has generally been welcomed, the Windsor High School payment technology has received criticism from some parents.
Heloise Morgan asked Halesowen News: "Where is it all going to end?"
"If we have come to the stage when children think it is normal to give their fingerprints to get school dinners then the world surely has gone mad," she explained.
