Cheap or free school meals in Bolton
12 Nov 2009

In the spring of 2010, schoolchildren in Bolton will be able to get hold of school dinners for £1.

According to the Bolton News, the local council will reduce the cost of these meals from their current level of £1.80.

Those who receive free dinners due to their parents claiming benefits will still be able to get their meals for no cost.

Overall, the local authority is hoping that the scheme will boost school dinner uptake, which could consequently lead to youngsters having a healthier diet.

Another way schools may be able to encourage more people to eat hot meals from their canteens may be with the introduction of cashless cateringsystems.

Firms like eMoney network sQuidcard help implement this technology, which has various benefits.

Children who are entitled to free meals will be more inclined to take them because they will be able to do so discreetly, while everyone will be able to purchase their food with convenient contactless smart cards.
