Contactless payment introduced at Midland Expressway
29 Jul 2011
Retailers looking to introduce contactless payment methods in a bid to speed up queuing time for customers could be interested in recent news regarding the Midland Expressway.
The M6 Toll operator has announced plans to introduce the technology after joining forces with Barclay Card and CreditCall, making it the first of its kind in the UK.
During the process, CreditCall will provide transaction servers that connect with smart card readers at each toll lane across a secure network.
Starting this autumn, the scheme is set to be carried out across all M6 tolls before March 2012, in time for the summer's Olympic Games.
CreditCall's Chief Executive Peter Turner said: "CreditCall's core expertise is in providing secure transaction processing systems. The acceptance of contactless payment for using the M6 Toll road is a significant step forward."
Earlier this month, Slovakian bank UniCredit announced the launch of a contactless payment system using MasterCard stickers for use across its network of 3,000 acceptance points across the country, Near Field Communications World reports.
