Contactless smart cards promote cashless catering at US university
1 Oct 2010
A contactless smart card has been introduced at a university campus in the US, allowing students to take advantage of cashless catering.
Blackboard has rolled out its latest smart card at Santa Clara University in a bid to transform the way payments are made on campus, Contactless News reports.
In a video on the site, Jeff Staples, vice president of market development at the contactless smart card provider, explained how the scheme was promoted with a loyalty marketing drive.
Digital signage was put up allowing those who signed up for a card to download a coupon that could then be redeemed for discounts at the canteen.
"It was a fantastic opportunity for the institution to put the power of the contactless element into the students' hands and give them an opportunity to realise an immediate benefit," he said.
Earlier this month, sQuid announced the launch of its e money card solution at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
