Derbyshire school catering prices climb
4 Jul 2011

Derbyshire-based parents may want to consider providing their children with electronic money to pay for school catering, as meal prices are on the rise.

The county council has decided that from September 5th, primary school dinners will climb to £1.90, while those for secondary facilities will reach £2, the Belper News reports.

By providing youngsters with contactless payment solutions, parents can rest assured that their little ones are less likely to be targeted by bullies looking for lunch money.

Derbyshire County Council's decision to push through price increases has come about because it will soon stop receiving funds from the School Lunch Grant.

It explained that these "small" hikes are required because of budget pressures of around £334,000.

Cashless catering could also yield other benefits, such as reduced queuing times.

Headteacher of Ysgol Glan-y-Mor in Camarthenshire Stephen Jones told the BBC this has been seen at his school, which has pleased the students.
