Footballer backs school healthy eating campaign
26 Nov 2009

The School Food Trust has signed up Tottenham Hotspur defender Jonathan Woodgate for a new campaign that aims to promote healthy eating in UK schools.

As part of an initiative that also involves the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, the English defender visited a school in north London to talk to youngsters about their diets and the importance of eating well.

Food and school groups have recently been urging parents of pupils to encourage their offspring to eat healthy school meals during the day, rather than buying junk food from local towns.

And with the advent of cashless catering technology, such as that provided by eMoney network sQuidcard, there are a number of schools in the UK that have formed innovative and easy ways to pay for items from canteens.

Using contactless smart cards, which can be topped up via electronic transfers on the internet, kids are able to purchase food and drink without having to carry cash around with them all day.
