Hartlepool school 'only serves freshly-made dinners'
4 Dec 2009
There is a primary school in Hartlepool where none of the children take packed lunches and all pupils eat freshly-made meals at dinnertime.
Julie Tyerman, the school's Headteacher, told the Hartlepool Mail that she thinks her institution is the only one in the town where such a scenario exists.
By following this format, the school is doing its bit to promote healthy eating to its children.
"We do a lot of work to try and encourage healthy eating among the children and about making healthy choices," Ms Tyerman explained.
Another method that may help encourage youngsters to buy school dinners - and possibly increase healthy eating - is the use of cashless catering in primary and secondary schools around the UK.
Companies such as eMoney network sQuidcard can help education providers introduce contactless smart card technology in their respective canteens.
Parents can top up their offspring's cards via online transfers, as well as track their purchasing history on the web.
