Increase in Derbyshire pupils eating school meals
18 May 2011
Parents in Derbyshire seem to be enjoying the chance to take advantage of cashless catering solutions, according to new figures by the region's countycouncil.
Throughout the past year, the number of secondary level pupils consuming school meals stood at 42.2 per cent, an increase from 37.9 per cent in 2008/09, the BBC reported.
A spokesman for the Derbyshire County Council noted that the figures are also the highest recorded since 2005.
Meanwhile, in the area's primary schools, in-house catering was enjoyed by 46.5 per cent in 2010/11, a rise from the 42.6 per cent recorded between 2008/09.
Councillor Mike Longden noted: "We are delighted that more Derbyshire children are choosing to eat meals provided by our school meals service."
Meanwhile in Sheffield, parents have been told that school meals for over 120 institutions in the location will be provided by Taylor Shaw come September.
The Sheffield Star reported that upon revealing the deal, the contractor announced that it intends to have all lunches cooked on site within a five year period.
