Jamie Oliver reiterates importance of school catering
25 Oct 2011

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has reiterated the importance of quality school catering and has called on the Department for Education to commit to improvements.

Oliver - who has long campaigned for better meals in schools - told the Guardian he is worried that the coalition has gone too quiet over potential reforms.

He added that education secretary Michael Gove needs to place school dinners higher on his agenda, as he highlighted scientific studies that have previously shown better nutrition aids learning.

"You would have to be an idiot to ignore all of the academic research that's been published to support these things," Oliver told the news provider.

The famous cook also stated it is important the hard work he has put in over the last six years is not undone.

Last week, the same publication revealed that fellow celebrity chef Marco Pierre White had launched his own plans to get more children eating healthy school lunches, but the government has halted proceedings for now.
