Maidenhill students try their hand at school catering
28 Jul 2011
Head teachers looking to introduce cashless catering in their institutions to reduce queuing time for students could be interested in a recent event at a Stonehouse school.
According to the Stroud News and Journal, a group of pupils from Maidenhhill School tried their hands at preparing meals as part of an evening for elderly residents.
During the event, the GCSE students were given the challenge of preparing a meal that would be suitable for consumption for an individual with specialised needs.
The event, which was attended by 25 senior citizens, saw guests enjoy a wide range of meals including fish pie and smoked salmon canapes.
Cath Fry, the school's head of design, technology and catering, said: "This has been a great opportunity for the pupils to practice their skills in a real life situation while interacting with a group that they would not normally meet."
Earlier this month, Welsh politician Ramesh Patel urged local authorities to introduce cashless catering in the country's schools in a bid to protect children from discrimination, Wales Online reports.
