Open day for school with cashless catering
1 Oct 2009

Sheldon School in Chippenham, Wiltshire held an open day for the parents of prospective new pupils last week.

The school is currently offering its youngsters a cashless catering facility, which sees them pay for lunchtime food and drink with contactless smart cards.

With the help of eMoney network sQuidcard and contract caterers Sodexo, the school has developed a system that means children do not need to bring in money and those who are on free school meals can gain what they are entitled to without the stigma.

Visitors to the open day on September 24th would have been able to see for themselves how the cashless catering technology is set-up.

In a letter to parents of year six children in the region, Sheldon School's head teacher Gerard MacMahon said: "We firmly believe that the best way to find out about a school is to visit it on a typical working day."

He added that it is important to "see children at work and play" and to experience the facilities.
