Peterlee families sign up for free school catering
12 Aug 2011

Head teachers looking to improve the efficiency of their school catering systems could be interested in recent reports from Peterlee.

According to the Peterlee Mail, more than 100 families have signed up for their children to receive free school meals following an appeal from the local authority.

The increase emerges after Hartlepool Borough Council revealed that up to 600 families were missing out on the money saving exercise despite being entitled to the offer.

Launched to ensure all children were given the same treatment, the campaign could also see the local authority receive a financial boost if more children sign up.

Councillor Jonathan Brash said: "Council officers and schools are working tirelessly to maximise uptake of free school meals and I am delighted to see more … families getting the support to which they are entitled."

This news comes after Caterer Search reported the School Food Trust had taken on six new members in a bid to move into the third sector and continue its charity work.
