Pre-paid cards 'an alternative to cash'
7 Dec 2009

People living in China will soon benefit from the introduction of an eCash product in their country, it has been reported.

According to China Daily, Sodexo Group is set to launch one of its consumer smart cards there, meaning employees of certain companies will have an alternative to paying with cash.

The Sodexo Pass is used to provide the food services firm's clients with a meal card that helps employers arrange food allowances for their staff.

Pierre Henry, Chief Operating Officer with the Sodexo Group and Chief Executive Officer of Sodexo Service Vouchers and Cards, said that the company wants to increase the number of Chinese cardholders from five to ten million between the next five to 15 years.

Meanwhile, General Manger of Shanghai Sodexo Pass Service Daniel Capek was reported as saying: "We will provide service and convenience to our customers' employees, giving them meal service with high quality, whether or not they have canteens."

In the UK, Sodexo has teamed up with eMoney network sQuidcard to run a cashless catering scheme at Sheldon School in Wiltshire.
