School catering: Plymouth schools fitted with new kitchens
16 Sep 2011

School catering tasks will be made easier for staff in Plymouth's mainstream schools following the completion of a recent scheme in the city.

According to the Plymouth Herald, production facilities were installed in 13 educational institutions following a three-year initiative to improve services.

The revamps were carried out using the Exceptional Capital Grant donated by the Department for Education in 2008 following a bid from the local authority.

Drake Primary School, Plaistow Hill Infants School and Prince Rock Primary School were among the locations to enjoy the installation of new catering facilities.

The move eradicates the requirement for meals to be transported to each institution from external companies, meaning children are able to enjoy fresh food for lunch.

Earlier this month, headteachers in Sheffield welcomed a new contract that promised to provide healthier and fresher food for pupils in the city's schools.
