School catering service in Northamptonshire wins award
21 Oct 2011
A school catering service in Northamptonshire has been given a top award for the quality of its meal provisions.
Northamptonshire County Council's Flourish team now designs and produces more than 12,000 school dinners a day and it is hoped this will soon be increased to 25,000, About My Area reports.
This week, it was rewarded at the National Educatering Awards with the top prize for innovation, much to the delight of cabinet member for children, learning and skills Councillor Andrew Grant.
"Since the start of the service last year we've seen an 84 per cent increase in the take-up of free school meals," he commented.
Councillor Grant added that he is very proud to see children guaranteed one healthy, hot meal a day, whether it is paid for or free.
Earlier this month, Warwickshire County Council won the Soil Association Food for Life bronze award thanks to the quality of its school meals.
