School meals uptake 'rising in Wigan'
12 Jul 2011

More children at school in Wigan are eating meals provided by their education facility, according to recent data.

An annual survey conducted by the School Food Trust and Local Authority Caterers' Association revealed that an average of 40.1 per cent of primary school pupils are consuming school dinners in Wigan.

In secondary schools, this figure is slightly higher - 43.4 per cent - which is a 0.16 per cent rise on last year's data.

Damian Winstanley, headteacher at Our Lady Primary School in Bryn, said: "We [pride] ourselves on giving our children the best start in life and providing great-quality school meals is an important part of that."

Recently, the Belper News reported that school dinner prices in Derbyshire will increase when the new term starts.

From September 5th, prices are set to reach £1.90 in primary schools and £2 in secondary facilities, Derbyshire County Council confirmed to the newspaper.
