School prize 'will improve cashless catering'
10 Jul 2009
A school which was awarded a cash prize for implementing cashless catering is to use the funds to extend the service further, it has emerged.
King's School in Grantham has received £5,000 in recognition of its improvements to school meals.
Cashless catering was introduced by the school in order to ensure that queueing times were kept to a minimum.
Meanwhile, upgraded kitchen and dining room equipment has added to the positive effects, which have doubled uptake of school meals among pupils.
Bursar Peter Kirkbride says: "With the £5,000 prize money we will extend our cashless catering provision and purchase a cash loader and two further cashless tills."
He adds that this should further tackle queueing, while enhancing calmness in the dining hall and driving meal uptake still higher.
Representatives of the School Food Trust visited the educational institution on June 30th to present catering staff with a ceremonial cheque for the £5,000 prize.
