Sutton school catering firm awarded for service
13 Sep 2011
Sutton Council's in-house catering team Sutton Catering has been praised for its delivery of healthy school lunches to a number of schools in the town.
According to the Sutton Guardian, the division has been awarded with the Food for Life silver accolade from the Soil Association for its efforts in providing nutritious meals.
Along with only four other organisations to receive the award, Sutton Catering was praised for its use of local and organic produce during the preparation process.
Kirsty Jerome, the local authority's Executive Member for education, said: "This proves the traditional perception of school dinners is outdated. Our staff serve delicious meals to primary and special school pupils five days a week."
This news comes after 18 schools in Lincolnshire were awarded with the bronze Food for Life award as a result of the use of fresh produce while creating healthy meals.
The Rasen Market Mail reported the county's education institutes aimed to reconnect children with the benefits of growing and cooking organic food.
