Sutton schools set for cash injection
31 Oct 2011

School catering facilities across the London borough of Sutton could be improved, after the government pledged to issue them with more cash.

The Department of Education has revealed that each institution will receive £1.8 million in funding this year, the Sutton Guardian reports.

Under the terms of the arrangement, each school will be able to allocate £500 for every child who receives free meals.

The borough's schools are already top performers in the UK, as the region achieved the best GCSE results in the country for the first time.

Sutton and Cheam MP Paul Burstow said that despite the impressive accolade, the additional money can help improve the area's schools even further.

"These extra funds will help our local schools get better and better," he told the news provider.

Earlier this week, the Grimsby Telegraph reported that many families in East Lincolnshire are failing to sign up for a free school meals initiative, despite being eligible.
