Todmorden pupils try school catering
9 Aug 2011
Head teachers looking to improve the efficiency of their school catering routines could be interested in a new initiative for pupils.
According to the Todmorden News, a group of children from the town's high school have taken part in a scheme to teach them the benefits of healthy eating.
Food for Life day, which took place during the summer term, set out to educate the youngsters about the importance of knowledge about food.
As part of the scheme, the students were taught how to make smoothies and bake home-made bread in a bid to achieve the Food for Life Partnership gold award.
Todmorden High School's Catering Manager Tony Mulgrew said: "It's making students aware of making the correct choices and where food comes from, what we eat and how we grow it."
Last month, newly launched catering company Taylor Shaw set out to encourage more South Yorkshire primary school children to eat school dinners, the Star reported.
