US college introduces new cashless catering programme
27 Oct 2010

A US college has introduced a new cashless catering programme in its student-run coffee shop.

Students at the University of Denver's Daniels College of Business can now pay for their goods at the Beans coffee store with their mobile phones, reports contactlessnews.com.

The institution teamed up with Denver-based mobile payments provider Mocapay to provide the service. Users of the Mocopay mobile application simply enter the transaction amount and show a unique code to the cashier in order to complete the purchase.

Customers can add credit to their accounts via their mobile phones, while parents can also top-up their child's balance online.

David Corsun, the director of Daniels' School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management, said: "We know that most of our students have smart phones and many are reliant on their parents for their spending cash."

The firm also alerts users when new stores join the service and sends reminders about their remaining balance.
