Warwickshire school cooks win Soil Association award
5 Oct 2011

Head teachers hoping to revolutionise the lunchtime system through the introduction of quality meals via cashless catering may be pleased if they are in the Warwickshire area.

This is because caterers at Warwickshire County Council have won a prestigious Soil Association Food for Life bronze award for their primary school meals.

The accolade demonstrates that what is on the menu is fresh, free of additives and made with animal welfare in mind.

As a way of celebrating, the cooks involved will be rustling up a special meal for the schools they provide for on October 12th 2011.

Rachel Brook, a development manager for the county council's caterers, told the Coventry Telegraph her team will continue to work on producing even better meals for the area's youngsters.

"We're already using organic and fair trade produce so are well-placed to meet the criteria for the silver Food for Life award from the association next year," she added.

Last month, Consumer Focus Wales urged parents to take action against poor food hygiene in schools after a Food Standards Agency revealed some were below par.
