Coles plans expansion of contactless system
31 Mar 2011

One company plans to use contactless payment cards to improve its customers' experiences.

Coles has already rolled out contactless payment terminals at its hardware business Bunnings Warehouse, but is now hoping to extend the system even further, ZDNet Australia reports.

Speaking to the news provider, head of payment services at the company Douglas Swansson said the technology must be introduced carefully to ensure shoppers will benefit.

While the scheme is already proving to be a hit with younger consumers, older people are not adopting it as quickly because the change has not been explained to them, he noted.

Mr Swansson said: "The Commonwealth Bank has done a huge job of getting cards out, but there's still a lot of confusion about what it is."

He added that some individuals over the age of 50 are "concerned about contactless card implementation".

Security Info Watch recently claimed that smart cards are improving business security, allowing companies to consolidate a number of applications on one piece of plastic.
