Concertgoers 'benefit from' contactless technology
30 June 2009
Thousands of concertgoers were able to beat the queues at the Ohio Music Festival thanks to its innovative use of contactless technology.
An estimated 14,000 concertgoers passed through the gates of the American festival without having to show their passes to door security, thanks to the RFID ticket system deployed by organisers.
Each ticketholder received a passive UHF RFID tag, which was attached in sticker form to the back of their pass, according to the RFID weblog.
Previously the event had suffered due to multiple people gaining entry on a single ticket and because of counterfeit admission passes - but organisers said the new contactless system worked so well they were able to recover their deployment costs.
Research carried out by Yankee Group anticipated there could be a total of 23.6 billion contactless payments in 2012 and 31.8 billion by the following year, according to Digital Transactions.
The publication added that the technology is "building momentum"
