Contactless payment card security 'welcomed'
1 Sep 2009

A new collaboration between the UK government, card firms and the mobile phone industry will make it safer for consumers to make contactless payments, according to the director of the UK Cards Association.

Paul Marsh asserted that it is important for the groups to collaborate to ensure that a common set of principles designed to best protect customers can be agreed "across the board".

He added: "The payments industry is sensitive to customer concerns' about security and has always set high standards for its products - any new payment solutions will be developed with precisely this in mind."

It emerged earlier this week that high street retailer Poundland has embraced contactless payment solutions, as the chain is set to trial the technology in selected stores in London, according to Retail Week.

Residents of Bolton and Dundee are benefitting from sQuid technology, which enables them to use their smart cards to pay for their goods rather than counting out change.

The convenient eMoney solution is more secure than carrying cash and can be topped up in store and online.
