Contactless payments: PCs 'can coexist with fresher technology'
1 Jun 2011
People who have begun to use their smartphones and tablets to access contactless payment schemes have been told that the home computer will still play a part in the process too.
Roddy McLean, marketing director at Crucial.com, pointed out that the amount of use on computers will differ from person to person.
However, he believes that there will not be a complete switch from PCs to newer devices such as tablets and smartphones.
Mr McLean explained: "Most people with tablets and smartphones use their computer as the hub in their computer ecosystem - a place to store photos, videos, data, et cetera; there is a place for all devices to coexist."
Each technological platform provides Brits with a chance to explore contactless payment techniques.
For example, online banking has now been taken up by 67 per cent of people in the UK, according to recent research by Pay Your Way, which could be achieved by logging onto a PC.
Meanwhile, smartphones that will use the Blackberry 7 operating system when it becomes available will be able to take advantage of Near Field Communications technology, to make for swift payments.
