Contactless smart card 'helpful to car hire customers'

Contactless smart card systems could be seen to be helpful to car hire customers in terms of speeding up booking processes, it has been suggested. 

Thanks to smart card technology, members of a unique car hire service can have access to their booking within 30 minutes.

People who sign up for rental services from Streetcar will be able to use the contactless devices to reserve a car online or over the phone, with bookings taking just 60 seconds to secure the motor. 

Furthermore, the company has now teamed up with BMW in order to offer customers the chance to drive one of their vehicles for as little as £6.95 per day.

This means that people who require the occasional use of a car or those who want to drive a BMW for a set period of time will be able to use contactless smart cards to reserve a BMW 1 or 3 Series for an hour, day, week or month.

eMoney technology has also been of benefit to motorists when parking around the UK as the introduction of schemes in cities such as Sheffield has dispelled the need for drivers to carry change for car park machines.
