Contactless smart cards are 'a little bit of the future right now'
2 Nov 2010
Paying for goods with a contactless smart card is a "pleasure" and allows users to get their hands on "a little bit of the future right now," according to an expert.
Jason Bradbury, a technology journalist and presenter of Channel Five's The Gadget Show, was full of praise for the technology, claiming it is far more prevalent than the public realise.
He said: "There's 27,000 contactless payment terminals in the UK at the moment. I was quite surprised at how large that figure is.
"It's just about getting the message out there. It's cool, it works and it's actually a pleasure – you want to use it. This is a little bit of the future right now."
Last week (October 29th), MBNA, Europe's largest credit card lender, began to roll out contactless credit cards for its millions of UK customers.
The firm will issue more than five million credit cards with contactless technology by the end of 2011, adding to the ten million that are already in circulation.
