Contactless smart cards 'really simple to use'
24 Feb 2010
Contactless smart cards, such as those offered by sQuid, are an extremely simple way to pay for goods and services in the retail and transit sectors, it has been advised.
Dan Salmons, Director of Global Innovations at Barclaycard, explained to moneysupermarket.com that cashless cards are very "quick and convenient for customers" because they do not require a pin number to be entered.
He said that payments of this type are ideal for transactions to the value of less than £15.
And Mr Salmons stated he feels that the increasing use of contactless smart cards could lead to a cashless society. He commented: "Because contactless is so much quicker and easier then fiddling with dirty, old cash, I think what we will find is that it is increasingly replaced."
He added that he expects it to get to the stage where people are only withdrawing paper money from cash machines once a month.
Contactless smart cards from sQuid are currently being utilised by public transport users on all Arriva buses in Bolton, who can now use swipe and go technology to pay for their journeys.
