Derbyshire school chef receives awards for meal quality
18 Jul 2011

A chef in Derbyshire has been praised for the high-quality food she provides the children at her school with.

Karen Waite, the head chef at Unstone Junior School in Dronfield, netted a gold award for the quality of the food she cooks for pupils, reports the Derbyshire Times.

As well as this, the 37-year-old received an accolade for most improved uptake, with children at the education facility increasingly eating school meals.

Ms Waite told the news provider she was "chuffed to bits" by the prize, which was given to her by Derbyshire County Council.

"The quality of the meals has improved dramatically and that's reflected by the fact that more children are eating school dinners now," Eileen Kelly, headteacher at the school, said.

Recently, it was reported by the Belper News that meal prices are set to rise in Derbyshire when the new term begins.

At primary schools, prices will reach £1.90, while they will hit £2 in secondary facilities.
