Largest smart card conference in US taking place
27 Oct 2009

This week (October 27th - 30th) will see the largest government smart card conference in the US take place with some 800 people registered to attend.

Almost 50 sponsors and exhibiting companies will be attending the Smart Card Alliance's annual Smart Cards in Government Conference, which has witnessed growth over the last 12 months.

New features this year include how smart cards are being used in the evolution of identity security within the US government and a showcase of biometrics.

Smart cards are experiencing an increase in popularity for state initiatives such as access programmes and homeland security identification.

In the UK, the British government is using photographic smart cards for the security of the Olympic Park construction site to help identify workers.

Smart cards are also being trialled for use on transport systems and for payment of public services in other areas of the country.
