New cashless parking system in Hackney will bring an 'end to parking tickets'
20 Jan 2012

Motorists in Hackney now have no excuse to get a parking ticket following the launch of a new e-money parking system, according to the borough's council.

The local authority has introduced the PayByPhone scheme which offers drivers the chance to pay for their parking fee using a debit or credit card and a mobile phone, reports the Hackney Gazette.

First-time users are required to register for the scheme beforehand, giving their vehicle information, card details and location.

Following initial registration, members only have to provide a security code and their current location to pay for their ticket.

Councillor Feryal Demirci, Hackney Council's cabinet member for neighbourhoods, told the news provider that the system would make parking "quicker and more convenient" but underlined the fact that there would be "no reason for any motorist to get a parking ticket".

All on-street pay and display bays and car parks run by Hackney Borough Council will take part in the programme, which has proved successful in other London boroughs including Islington, Tower Hamlets and Westminster.
