RFID payments 'expanding' in India and Asia
6 Aug 2009

The use of radio frequency identification (RFID) is to expand in Asia as retail giant Metro Group announces new payment pilots in the region.

Metro Group is teaming-up with identification specialists Checkpoint Systems to expand its Tag it Easy programme.

The pilot will enable more of those in the Asian consumer goods industry to add RFID labels to their products ready for shipment.

Having begun expansion in 2007 the next phase of the programme will see a furtherĀ
75 Chinese and Indian consumer goods suppliers involved.

This is in addition to the 100 manufacturers already involved with the program from Hong Kong, China and Vietnam.

Similar contactless technology is used in the cashless sQuidcard, which can now be widely used in Bolton to pay for goods and services.

Smart card users in the region can do everything from paying a library fine to buying a pizza with a wave of their payment card.
