Students at new Northamptonshire school set to use smart cards
11 Oct 2010
Students at a new school in Northamptonshire will use smart cards to access the building, according to reports.
The Northants Evening Telegraph has revealed that the £28 million Kettering Science Academy, which is set to open in September 2012, will issue pupils with the cards to act as an automatic register and boost security.
Peter Simpson, the academy's executive principal, claimed the combination of new facilities and the hi-tech building will improve the student's experience at the institution.
He told the news provider: "This is a building designed for learning and it will allow students to achieve their very best. It's a very secure building which has been designed with pupils' safety in mind and to minimise bullying."
Once constructed, the school will include a 450-seat theatre, sports hall, two Astroturf football pitches and a 28-metre long courtyard.
It will also feature two large-scale science laboratories and a new heating system which will help the school reduce its energy bills.
