eMoney payment solutions 'to make parking more convenient'
26 Jan 2010

eMoney payment solutions in the town of Newton Abbot in Devon are set to make parking more convenient for residents of and visitors to the area.

Councillor Gordon Hook, Teignbridge Executive Spokesperson for Environmental Services, says that the RingGo system will allow drivers in the town to pay for their parking with a mobile phone, debit or credit card.

No paper ticket will be necessary as car users will provide their registration number and the length of time they wish to park. Parking attendants will then be able to check this information on a handset.

Councillor Hook adds: "It will be especially beneficial in cold weather and in the dark, when it's no fun for drivers to fumble through their pockets, wallets or purses at a ticket machine."

A similar system is now underway in the city of Sheffield, where drivers can pay for parking in council car parks with cashless systems, eliminating the need for them to carry loose change.
