eMoney solutions could eliminate queuing frustration
10 Aug 2010

The wide-spread deployment of eMoney solutions could help alleviate the frustration of queuing for UK shoppers, it has been claimed.

Barclays has revealed that two-fifths of Britons refuse to wait for longer than two minutes and 68 per cent regularly give up on purchases if there is a long queue.

According to the poll of 2,000 shoppers, half of consumers refuse to even enter a shop if they can see a lengthy queue.

Meanwhile, only 12 per cent of retailers have introduced the technology despite its ability to reduce transaction times by over a third.

Stuart Neal, head of UK payment acceptance at Barclaycard, expressed his belief that stores should offer customers innovative payment methods to speed up transactions.

He said: "By embracing technology and installing new payments systems, such as contactless, retailers will stay ahead of the curve and limit the amount of time that people are waiting in shop queues."

The introduction of eMoney solutions in retailers such as the Co-operative has helped publicise the technology, with 29 per cent of consumers now able to identify the contactless symbol.
