Estimated 15 billion mobile eMoney tickets to be in use by 2014
10 Feb 2010

Some 15 billion mobile eMoney tickets are expected to be in use by 2014, according to predictions from Juniper Research.

There are currently 2 million such tickets in operation, with China and the Far East seen to be paving the way for other nations to follow, Mobile Marketing Watch reports.

And the research company states that although this figure seems like a large increase it is actually "only the beginning of an industry that's poised for significant growth".

The report found that mobile ticketing solutions from transit companies have seen the largest consumer uptake but sports teams, concert organisers and major cinema chains are all expected to follow suit by 2014.

Furthermore, consumers are starting to discover the intrinsic cost-saving benefits associated with adopting eMoney services, which the report suggests "will help bring the technology mainstream".

eMoney payment solutions have recently been seen to make parking in UK towns and cities more convenient, with the adoption of the technology meaning that drivers do not have to fumble around for loose change for a ticket machine.
