'Exciting year ahead' for smart card industry

There is "an exciting year ahead for the smart card industry", according to one of the sector's most prominent figures.

Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Smart Card Alliance, said that the executive board members of the group will be leading the organisation in the coming 12 months as further developments occur.

His comments came at the eighth annual Smart Cards in Government Conference, which is currently taking place in Washington DC. The Washington Convention Center is the venue for the three-day gathering from October 28th to 30th.

They also followed the announcement of the alliance's 2009-10 board and seven-member executive committee.

Mr Vanderhoof said: "With all of the advances in identity, especially in healthcare and cybersecurity and in financial and transit payments, we expect the coming year to be full of news, white papers, web seminars and conferences educating on the use of smart card technology in these applications."
