Faster Payments Service celebrates anniversary
1 Jun 2011

An internet and phone payments company has marked a couple of special occasions, those interested in contactless payment strategies may be interested to note.

The Faster Payments Service last week celebrated its third year since launch, which allowed customers to make swift payments via a telephone or web line.

Furthermore, on May 24th, the firm has been able to mark its one billionth payment, a landmark that has put the value of transactions to £375 billion.

On average, the Faster Payments Service takes in 1.6 million payments per day, which works out to a daily value of £600 million.

The number of payments through the firm has also been jumping each year since its introduction, which could suggest more adoption to contactless payment schemes.

Back in February, electronics payment provider sQuid marked its own landmark, when year eight student Ellie Aggett processed the one millionth transaction using the firm's card system.
