FPB 'facing march towards cashless society'
5 Nov 2009

Businesses are being given a helping hand when it comes to reducing the expense of taking card payments and locating alternative credit card merchant services.

Citing the importance of such a move as a cashless society continues to become more apparent, the Forum of Private Businesses (FPB) has teamed up with Accept Cards to give company bosses the opportunity to more easily find the best deals available.

Nick Palin, the FPB's Director of Finance, said: "Accept Cards does all the work by searching for the best deal possible. In addition, it provides peace of mind for business owners, for example by making sense of their statements."

He added that some firms are not even aware that they can switch to lenders other than their existing banks.

Indeed, Managing Director of Laver Holidays Tony Laver said that he is certain that there are "many businesses" which use their own banks for card services even though they are not tied to them.

Businesses in Bolton, Greater Manchester have the potential to reduce the money they spend on dealing with cash transactions by signing up to the region's multi-purse smart card initiative.

Customers who own a card can pay for items, council services and bus travel just by holding their card up to a special reader. The card can be topped up with eCash online or in participating stores.
