Gemalto launches new contactless smart card reader
10 Sep 2010
Digital security firm Gemalto has released a new contactless smart card reader for access control.
The PROX DUTM smart card reader, which is also compatible with contact technology, can be used for ID purposes, restricting building access and in cashless healthcare schemes.
The device can also be used by retailers and transit firms to accept payments, as well as for electronic banking transactions and loyalty programmes.
Organisations which install the new readers could reduce their expenditure as the device simply plugs into a USB port – reducing the overall cost of ownership.
Francois Lasnier, senior vice president of online authentication at Gemalto, claimed the company are consistently striving to innovate their technology.
He said: "Our PROX DU Reader has been refined with ergonomics and sleek design in mind, offering end-users and issuers across a wide range of market applications more versatility and a more intuitive way to adopt security technology."
